The HiRoad app: introducing the Challenges tab
January 25, 2024
There’s a chance you’ve seen a notification like this pop up on your phone from time to time—signaling that one of your favorite apps has some improvements, updates or new features to show off.
And just like some of your other favorites, the HiRoad app has been making some big updates. They’re the kind of updates that fine tune the telematics in your phone to recognize your good driving, or include challenges to help keep you focused, calm and distraction-free behind the wheel.
Our team at HiRoad works hard to find more opportunities to connect with our customers and reward them for safe, smooth driving.
To give you some insight into the work of our HiRoad app challenges, we’ll share why we created them in the first place and how HiRoaders benefit from having all of our challenges centralized to one place in the app.
Join us as we introduce you to your new
Challenges tab.A quick HiRoad app recap
The HiRoad app recap—yes, we know that rhymes (shoutout to our team of writers). If you’re new here, you may not know a whole lot about HiRoad, our insurance model or why we have an app in the first place.
Because nowadays there seems to be an app for everything. But for the HiRoad app—it’s more than just a place to pay your bill, store your insurance card or file a claim.
With the tech found in your smartphone, the HiRoad app measures four driving scores: Safe Speeds, Smooth Driving, Distraction Free and Driving Patterns. Which, if you boil all of that down into one sentence means that the tech in your phone is paying attention to things like, “Are you going the speed limit?” “Watch those sharp turns!” “Keep your hands off your phone while you're driving!”
The better you drive, the better your scores in the HiRoad app. And those scores? They turn into earned savings on your insurance bill—every month. Take a look at this video for a quick HiRoad app rundown:
The Challenges tab
As you can see in our app, you already have a great interactive tool at your fingertips. Now with the new Challenges tab we're making it even easier to access tips and tools to increase your safe driving scores.
What are the challenges? Glad you asked. Here’s a rundown of the HiRoad app challenges we’ve created (for now):
1. Tune Your App
Once you create a policy with HiRoad and download the app. As you log in, you’ll be greeted with your first challenge: Tune Your App. This challenge is fundamental for setting up your phone to log trips, unlock driving scores—and with good driving and high scores—earn discounts. Plus, for every HiRoad driver that completes this challenge, they’ll receive a $5 credit on their policy.
2. Distraction Action
This activity gives HiRoaders a quick set of tips designed to help you improve your distraction-free skills and earn more discounts in the HiRoad app. These tips range from when to queue up your music playlists to reminders to turn your phone on “Do Not Disturb” before hitting the road.
3. Mindful Breathing
Designed to be completed in five days, the Mindful Breathing challenge engages HiRoaders to engage in the practice of box breathing. The challenge itself is there to encourage calm before a drive or whenever you need a minute to relax and focus.
4. Hands-off Phone
We’re committed to encouraging drivers to leave their hands on the wheel, not their phone. With the Hands-off Phone challenge we’re asking HiRoad drivers to start and maintain a streak of going phone-free while driving.
We’ve made it easy for drivers to keep the streak alive by logging your hands-off challenge after each drive. Since it's an ongoing challenge, Hands-off Phone is a great motivational tool for drivers to be proud of their commitment to distraction-free driving.
5. Driving Focus challenge
It can be hard for anyone to focus through constant interruptions. The Driving Focus challenge shows you how to silence those nagging notifications. By committing to distraction-free driving completing this challenge, we reward HiRoad each customer with a $15 credit on their next bill. So if you have multiple drivers on your HiRoad policy, that’s an opportunity for each person to earn that $15 once the challenge is completed.
With so many challenges, and more on the way, I'm sure you can see why we decided to bring them all together in one convenient location. And if you’re like us, no one likes complicated app navigation, right? The Challenges tab allows you to easily:
Monitor your Hands-off Phone streak
Check challenge stats on what’s completed and the rewards you’ve earned
Show a live progress on which challenges you’re currently working on
Highlight which challenges are available to you or completed
Our team at HiRoad created the Challenges tab with our customers in mind. As the app home screen was increasingly becoming longer, we wanted to simplify things for HiRoaders.
“We wanted a clear home for Challenges to make it easier for HiRoaders to find and participate in the current challenges available and the many future challenges we plan to offer.”
– HiRoad product team
