The importance of using the HiRoad app

The HiRoad app utilizes telematics technology to recognize your driving habits and give you feedback that offers personalized tips, rewards and potential savings on your car insurance bill every month.

But the key to those rewards and savings? Consistency. Our HiRoad team is going to share why engaging with the app, its challenges and logging trips holds a number of benefits to customers.

Why should I use the HiRoad app?

For most, when it comes to car insurance, it's easy to fall into the practice of "set it and forget it." That car insurance policy you bought can be all but forgotten—that is, until you need it. But for those with a

telematics-based insurance policy from HiRoad, ongoing engagement with the app is the key to building safe driving habits and saving money on their monthly insurance bill.

Their engagement includes things like logging trips and participating in HiRoad app challenges. Here are some benefits that can come from your app participation: 

1. Driving with the app

New HiRoad customers create an account, download the app, and correctly set phone permissions to get started. Take your usual drives for several days. This helps the

HiRoad app to recognize your driving habitsand once the tune-up is complete, driving score details are revealed. At this point you can review trips and edit (if needed) as Driving or Not Driving.

Next your driving scores are unlocked and you can start earning a monthly discount for safe and focused driving. You’ll also find personalized tips to help lessen distractions and increase your attention. Think of it like your favorite fitness app to track your workouts. Initially, the app needs data on your activities to understand your routine. Over time, it learns your habits, offering more accurate suggestions and personalized feedback.

2. Take challenges

The HiRoad app challenges are there to help you improve your focus and safety. Each challenge has different themes and rewards for customers—some include a credit on your next insurance bill. 

Others are designed to help you stay focused and help you gain a better overall understanding of safer driving habits and facts, like our Chill Driver quiz. One of our favorites is the Mindful Breathing challenge which helps you focus on clearing the mind before the drive.

3. Recognition, recaps and affirmations (oh my!)

For every challenge you complete, you’ll find your successes in the Trophy Case where each will be displayed in the app with the date awarded. To help keep you motivated to drive safely, we’ll send you some positivity and words of affirmations for tasks done well and improved scores. We even give you the tools to check-in with yourself to see where there might be room for improvement in your Driving Scores. Each month our HiRoad team will send you your HiRoader Recap—a monthly capture of driving scores, changes (up and down), discounts earned on your insurance bill and tips for improving.

How to use the HiRoad app

Congrats! As a HiRoad customer with an active insurance policy, you’re in the right place. With your policy in hand and account created, you’re off to a great start to use the HiRoad app. 

Once it’s downloaded on your phone, open the app and apply the recommended permissions and settings (we call it “Tuning Your App”). Now go ahead and log into your account to view your policy and start participating in the HiRoad challenges to build some mindful habits. And for those that need a little added support, no worries.
